Re: Centreboard
Does your boat have the two piece stainless steel bracket that screws to the top of the centreboard case and the male and female pin join through the pivot hole together to form a pivot for the centreboard? If not, you probably have a centreboard bolt for it to pivot on. The cutout is / was probably...

Apparently for a bermudan rig.

Niad.........
An interesting suggestion.......
I looked on the CVRDA dinghy database, they list the Heyland Swift and the Heyland Lugger, but there are no details on either.............
Do you have other information on either of these?

Re: I may be wasting your time...
Rigging......... At the top of the mast (lower mast) should be a sheave / pulley. This takes the halyard (rope that pulls up the sail) on a bermudan rig, or the top mast on a gunter (your top mast) rig. One end of the halyard, the end toward the rear of the boat, is attached to the top mast, possibl...

Re: I may be wasting your time...
Hello. I dont think that's an Otter................. When you say secure the yard to the mast, presumably you mean the top mast to the bottom mast? Haven't you already rigged it in the photo? Forestay....... Usually your local yacht / dinghy chandlery will make one, some on the spot if you tell them...

Okay,
You may as well see what Aptanet turns up with.
I'm often around Emsworth / Hayling.

Re: Help restoring an Otter
Hello. I can't see from your photo clearly where the mast may be located. On mine, (gunter rig) the foot of the mast sits on the foredeck just before the cockpit. It is located there by a pin in a hole in the deck which also locates into a hole in the bottom if the mast. Are you sure the mast should...

Re: Question about rigging an Otter
Hello. Welcome to Otter sailing. My boat, 199 has the same rig as yours and Albacore 43. I set my mast up so that the shrouds and forestay are tight, but preferably with a bit of rake aft. I put the mast up each sail, so the shrouds are left attached by chainplates to the shroud plates. My mast rota...

Re: Mysterious Otter
Hello, Sea Spray............. I would heartily support your efforts to resurrect the building of new Otters......... You could try to contact George O'Brien Kennedy or his family to establish who has rights to the design, or / and ask on the forum of CVRDA http://www.cvrda.org/wp-cvrda/ who have som...

Re: Otter Mast needed
......your mast........ You could fit a longer mast as long as: The foot fitting on the mast will fit whatever the fitting is you have on your boat to step the mast onto, and The shrouds and forestay, (the three wires that hold the mast upright) are long enough to reach the anchor points on the boat...

Re: Otter Mast needed
You're on the ball, Albacore 43...........
You might be able to find an abandoned metal mast at a sailing club and cut it down, if you can be bothered and if you still have the old damaged one for the compatible fittings...........
Mirrors now have bermudan rigs...................
