Hi Dave, and welcome to the forum. When I set this up I did some similar searching and found little if any information about Otter sailing dinghies. I did manage to find two threads on other forums and a single web page with some specifications. Sadly the web page was on Geocities, so has vanished now, although there is some information on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otter_(Dinghy)) which may have moved across from there. I summarised what I could find in the welcome post of this forum, so you can see there wasn't a lot of information!

One of the threads did have a post from somebody who had been involved with the Otter Owners Association, and indicated that it no longer existed, but he did have some information still. I tried to contact him through the forum messaging service, but never had a reply sadly. I still keep my eye open for more information, and anything I do find I'll post here. It is quite nice that, at the moment anyway, this forum gets top billing on Google for a search for 'otter sailing dinghy', so with any luck membership here will grow and people can share any information they do have. :)

I know where you're coming from with a well used, but sound boat, and also get offers, but I'm determined to get the kids out sailing this year - and myself for that matter, I'm usually too busy with work :(

Hi folks

I am thinking of buying an Otter just now (sail no. 640). I am not new to sailing dinghies generally, having had a few over the years, but I've never owned or sailed an Otter.

Dave, I notice that you mention in your pot about "knowing what to look out for". I'd really appreciate it if you have any pointers for me before I commit to buying the one I've seen. I'm hoping to take a look at it next weekend (8th July) and it would be tremendously helpful to know if there are any well known weaknesses I should be looking out for.

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards

Springer
