New otter owner

Post by sinogrande 1969 »

So I've just bought myself an ottter sailing dinghy. I am completely new to sailing and of course will be having a few lessons in the new year. Can anyone point me towards a few useful rigging YouTube videos? I'm not sure what other sailing dinghies are similar. I have the mast up and that is as far as I've got! Just wanted to practice rigging on dry land before next year. Many thanks.

Hello

There are very few youtube videos on Otter sailing.

You need to read up and learn the basic points of how to sail and the names of the parts of the boat and sails.

Join your local sailing club (when possible) for advice.

Do you know what rig for the sails you have? Gaff rig has a short mast and a '2nd' mast which is hoisted up the first mast;
Bermudan rig is one longer mast.

Try to establish the basics. On youtube search Mirror Dinghy for ideas. Mirors have both Gaff and Bermudan rigs.

Where abouts are you?

Good luck.
