Otter Origins

Post by cweed »

I am the owner of no.199. This is a fibreglass boat with a gunter rig (like a Mirror) and a rotating mast. I also sail high performance dinghies, but am a big fan of the Otter.

On the thread re 'Otter Brochure' there are questions re the age of boats. I have Yachts and Yachting Racing Classes Yearly roundups from 1991 and that quotes the Otter as designed by O'Brien Kennedy in 1961, although the 1992 and 1993 editions state 1963. There is no mention of the Otter National Championships results after 1993. The last sail number recorded in the 1993 edition is 1173.

A better picture of the Otter could be built up if Sailsite forum users would comment on their own boats such information as:

The sail number of their boat;
The builder of their boat if known;
The construction ~ ie Fibreglass, Wood, Composite;
Type of rig ~ Bermudan or Gunter.

I'd like to thank Sailsite for providing this useful forum.
