Eastern Division Report September 2009

Post by aptanet »

PORTSMOUTH & LANGSTONE SAILING ASSOCIATION
Report September 2009

Broadmarsh
The proposed 'Rotostack' dry store and launch facility met unanimous opposition at Advisory Committee. No formal planning application has been lodged.

Harbour-side Caravan Site
The nature of this site, ie. touring or static, has not been revealed, but access on to the Eastern Rd. will be shared with the Harvester Restaurant.

LHB Rib
On Saturday 26th September, it was nice to see not only our semi-resident seals, but also witness the Rib apprehend a speed limit busting Jetski ! In his report Nigel Jardine, the Harbour Manager, expressed his disappointment that although convicted, two recent offenders escaped with a Conditional Discharge for 6 months. They did, however, have to pay £350 costs.

Commercial Harbour Dues
The increase in charges have been appealed and will the subject of a Public Local Enquiry to be held in December. The outcome is of significance to Harbour finance and perhaps our Dues.

Odd One
At the September Advisory Committee, a member queried whether any one had knowledge of a rumoured chain ferry across the Run?

Kendalls Expansion
A workshop is being held by EMU Ltd., Environmental consultants to Kendalls, on this proposal. Details yet to be published, Tudor will be represented.

Langstone Harbour Visitor Guide
Funding having been provided by the Solent Protection Society and Natural England, this will now be produced and should be of interest.

Green Algae
This topic attracted media attention recently and Panorama featured an unsatisfactory situation in the West Country. It revealed poor communication of "consented discharges" which are held to blame. It was emphasised by Nigel Jardine that due to sustained pressure by the Advisory Committee and the Harbour Board, Southern Water automatically notify him of all such discharges which are posted on the LHB Website. Clubs and interested parties can sign up for automatic e-mails from the Board for the protection of Members from hazardous conditions.
