Eastern Division Report June 2009

PORTSMOUTH & LANGSTONE SAILING ASSOCIATION
Report June 2009

New LHB RIB
Rib has now been delivered and trialled, and will assist enhanced bye-law enforcement.

Hayling Ferry Pontoons
These now due for survey and costly work could ensue. This cost falls on the Harbour Board. Since the Ferry is considered an important element of the County transport structure, PLSA and Advisory Committee have campaigned for funding assistance rather than adding to the boat owner charges.

Harbour-Side Caravan Site (Salterns)
No information can be obtained from the City Planners regarding the future use of this site.

Langstone Harbour Management Plan
This 1997 document is due for review and the Board's Environment Officer, Katherine Rowberry, has prepared revisions dealing with that aspect of the Plan. The PLSA and other Maritime interests will undertake a similar appraisal and will be seeking inputs from Member Clubs.

Broadmarch
A developer has made representation to Havant BC for a major, futuristic 'Rotostack' style store ashore and launch facility, adjacent to and incorporating the Public Slip. The proposal involves major land take and is clearly focused on the fast Powerboat market. This is likely to meet united opposition from wildlife, environmental and boating bodies who value the quiet enjoyment character of Langstone Harbour. Equally it would be dangerously close to Bedhampton Wharf and conflict between dredger and leisure could result. Havant BC, however, may well be dazzled by dangling £ signs.

More Broadmarch
Portsmouth CC is reportedly beginning to recognise the value of Langstone Harbour as a Green Tourism asset. There is surely an obvious opportunity for collaboration between Portsmouth CC and Havant BC for an Information/Visitor Centre at Broadmarsh where excellent road access exists.
