Forum updates
Well after switching to the default phpBB theme to try using different anti spam measures on the registration pages the volume of spam seems to have gone through the roof. Even after returning to the original method, which had done reasonably well for a while, things didn't improve much. I do wonder...

More Spam
Spam has increased somewhat recently unfortunately. It is always and arms race; as fast as you can create a security feature the spammers are creating ways to get past it. After a particularly large batch of spam a couple of weeks back I decided to change the prevention method for new accounts to re...

Spam, spam, spam
There has been a notable increase in spam recently, particularly over the past few days which took me a while to clear. As it happens I had just performed a software upgrade on another forum I have, and Sailsite was the next in line with the upgrade planned for tonight. I have now done this, so hope...

Twitter updates
For anyone who uses micro-blogging services, we now have news feeds on both Twitter and Identica . We will be posting occasional updates there. Hopefully we can even get more people taking an interest in what is happening in the two harbours - there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that impact...

Re: Otter 530
Hi cweed, There's an icon on the left under the member details that looks like a head and shoulders with 'pm' next to it. That should bring up a similar page to the one to post a forum message for a private message. Depending on your preferences you may get an email notification of the message. Eith...

Re: Otter 530 Spare Mast
Private messages are enabled, have you had problems? I do need to tweak the template as the top doesn't display properly, but as far as I know everything is working properly. I'll have to try a PM and see.Southern377 wrote:as I don't think the pm facility here works.

Re: We're back, and forum software
Well I upgraded the forum software again a while ago, and it seems to have done the trick - for now. No doubt things will change over time in the software arms race that seems to exist between the spam / malware writers and mail server / website administrators - oh, and the anti-virus / anti-malware...

Kingfisher spotting
It's been quiet in here for a long while, so when I spotted a photo of a Kingfisher 26 in one of the entries for the Chichester Harbour photo competition I thought I'd share it. Unfortunately it looks as though she might have been grounded and waiting for the tide before lifting off - possibly just ...
