Re: Help restoring an Otter

Actually this mast step looks better than the first one I posted. Looks a bit more solid.

Re: Help restoring an Otter

Hi there I haven't been on to the forum for a while so I've only just seen your post. I don't know if you've already sorted out your problem but in case you haven't I've attached an image of where my mast step is (ignore all the mess on the foredeck, I was in the middle of fitting an access hatch). ...

Re: This............

Yes it does cweed. She's moving along very nicely. It reminds me that it's high time I got Dove back out there again now that summer is here. Poor girl has been in the shed for far too long. I've been redesigning her interior for more long distance cruising over the winter and I hope to be posting a...

Re: Wheres the Otter gone?

Hi folks Regarding why the Otter 'faded away'. I'm no expert in this and I don't have any evidence but I seem to recall somewhere that they started to be used as school boats quite a bit which meant that there was a 'need' to overbuild them strength wise (double hull etc). This made them expensive c...

Re: Manufacturer's Rigging Guide & Brochure

Yes I can see the benefits from that perspective and like I said I'm not the lightest person in the world by any stretch. There are few dinghies that my weight on the centreboard wouldn't right fairly easily but that's no good if I were to snap it along the way. I may look into that idea when I fina...

Re: Manufacturer's Rigging Guide & Brochure

Ok thanks James that's useful info, especially about where the centreboard's raising block is attached on yours. Just as an aside, hire do find the boat handles note with a metal board? Is it much heavier to raise and does it make the boat any more stable to move around in (i.e. With more weight bel...

Re: Manufacturer's Rigging Guide & Brochure

Ok thanks James. I guess that's the best way of looking at it.i think I'll stop off everything except the 4 lines mentione and then take it from there. It would have just been nice to have seen for sure what the factory intense if I could only get hold of the elusive Mr Brain and his rigging guide b...

Re: Manufacturer's Rigging Guide & Brochure

Hi James Thanks for your reply. What I essentially have is several potential places for the kicker to attach at the bottom. One atfoot the mast foot and one below that on the bulkhead in front of the foredeck. Either will work but one was set by a pro as part of the design and one by a guy who wante...

Manufacturer's Rigging Guide & Brochure

Hi folks.I hope someone can help me out. I bought an otter dinghy last year (sail no. 640, bermudan rig) which I am currently modifying for use as a cruising boat. I have fitted a folding bunk for overnight sleeping, made a tent awning over the boom and converted some of the boyancy into storage loc...

Re: New Otter Dinghy

Hi Roger & welcome to the world of the Otter sailing dinghy. If it's any help in ageing her. I (just like Otter915) have one of the later type designs with the double hull and enclosed gunwales, and mine is sail no. 640 so it definitely puts yours earlier than that. For me personally, it's one o...

Re: Mainsail Foot

Hi Jacob Thanks for your post. It does seem from talking to people that both kinds of setup are out there in use on Otters. Mine is loose footed, as in there is no bolt rope. The tack of the mainsail (the rear corner of the foot) slots into the boom and slides to the back of the boom but the foot of...

Orignal Flyer/Brochure for Otter

Hi all

I have noticed that on some old threads on here someone said they had a copy of the original documentation about the Otter.

Does anyone still have a pdf copy or anything they could PM to me please? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help.
